Violence

Violence is a public health issue because it has an enormous impact on the health and wellness of individuals; especially youth. Recognizing youth violence as a public health issue complements the more traditional view of the problem as a criminal justice issue and incorporates the social and developmental sciences in addressing the concern.

Below is a list of resources they may help if you, or know someone who is dealing with violence and it's effects.

Baltimore

The Baltimore City Health Department is working to end the epidemic of violence through effective advocacy, collaboration, and programming for, and in partnership with youth, families, and citizens of Baltimore.

Johns Hopkins Center for the Prevention of Youth Violence

Was established to prevent youth violence and promote positive youth development in Baltimore City. The organization is designed to assist parents and educators with resources throughout the community.

CDC Dating Matters seeks to promote healthy relationships as a method to preventing dating violence.  The specific focus 11-14 year old youth in high risk urban communities was developed to stop dating violence before it begins. Baltimore Dating Matters is part of Baltimore City Health Department’s Office of Youth Violence Prevention and supports the Healthy Baltimore, Healthy Children and Adolescents.

This organization is useful for families and community members who have experienced domestic violence. It provides safety planning, shelter, counseling, and legal services. 

MDCRC helps by providing information, assistance, and support throughout case proceedings. They help during all phases of the criminal and juvenile justice systems. They offer intake and referrals to adults
